Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
Episode #52
Wings to Tomorrow
As in the first episode, we are shown a glimpse of Sakura and Syaoran's future. Both are trapped in a glass tube with a glass wall dividing them. Both are sad and trying to hold each other, but are unable to due to the glass. Fei Wang Reed says that they must continue to travel (most likely so they can reach their future to be trapped in the tube, possibly by Fei Wang Reed) and that he must control their journey.
Meanwhile, Syaoran, Mokona, Fay and Kurogane are under attack from Chaos who had just taken Sakura out of the game by freezing her mind and soul within an icy prison in the sky.
As Chaos, in his giant bird form continues to fire fireballs at them, several of the blasts hit his own palace and town. Keefer and Charme who are in the town at the moment are running around, trying to save themselves from the barrage of fireballs. Suddenly Toya and Yukito appear, carrying something wrapped within a piece of cloth. They tell them that they've been looking everywhere for them.
Back at the palace, Mokona senses that Chaos is feeling very lonely. This suprises Syaoran though he still decides to rescue Sakura. He tells Kurogane and Fay to do their best to get her back while he attacks Chaos as a way to distract him. Syaoran flies into battle, and Mokona with him.
Unknown to them Xing Huo is watching and talking to Fay Wang Reed. He tells her to help Chaos as if they make a move in this battle they apparently will be able to control which worlds they go to once more since Yuko stopped them from doing so way back in Episode __. An army of Fay Wang Reed's warriors are summoned and stop Kurogane and Fay from freeing Sakura.
Back on our world, Yuko senses what's happening and comments on how Fay Wang Reed never learns.
Fay Wang Reed however has taken another action by commanding the other Syaoran to move. Almost immediately the good Syaoran freezes. Mokona screams for him to snap out of it but Syaoran is in complete shock.
Elsewhere, Sakura who appears to be in a kind of limbo is confronted by Chaos who asks for her help in saving him. He explains that his longing to be with her had driven him mad and that if she doesn't stop him he will hurt her and her friends. He then begins to glow and reveals his true form to Sakura.
Yuko comments on how every living thing longs to be where it belongs and once it does so all things are possible even if it means being with one with powers equal to that of a god's.
Suddenly a Sakura begins to glow and a giant light bursts out of her and destroys Fay Wang Reed's soldiers, freeing Kurogane and Fay and stopping Fay Wang Reed's Syaoran from controlling the good one.
Kurogane and Fay begin to fly towards Syaoran and Chaos but are stopped when Kurogane sees something; Yukito and Toya! The both fly down and are given Syaoran's sword which they had completely fixed. Kurogane and Fay thank them and fly as fast as they can to Syaoran. When they get to him they find he and Sakura dodging Chaos' fireballs. Kurogane throws him his sword. Syaoran flies at Chaos as fast as he can and actually activates both sword's magicak powers at once and combines them into one massive weapon which he uses to deflect Chaos' huge attacks back at him.
Syaoran swings the sword directly at Chaos' neck but stops short of killing him. Chaos, knowing when he's defeated reverts to his human form and comes down to the ground with Syaoran. To the suprise of everyone, Sakura hugs him and explains that he is a part of her. It is then that Syaoran realises that Chaos is in fact, Sakura's feathers!
Chaos explains how he had come to this world as a bunch of Sakura's feathers and formed the giant bird that they all know. Fay and Kurogane conclude that the reason he wanted Sakura was because he is in fact her memories.
Chaos thanks them all and tells Syaoran that he is sure he will get all the feathers for Sakura and that he'll be waiting. With that, he begins to glow and reverts back into the numerous feathers that were his original form.
One of the feathers falls from the sky and floats into Sakura while the others travel to new worlds. Sakura remembers a moment in her past when she had been begging Toya and Yukito to let her travel. They both tell her that because she's the princess, it wouldn't be right. Sakura then turns to and empty space (i.e. Syaoran) and tells it that she wants to travel with it.
Meanwhile in the present, Syaoran overlooks the sleeping Sakura who is talking in her sleep about traveling with him.
Fay Wang Reed is angry over what had happened because he can still no longer control their travels, but he suggests that they have several plans ready for the near future. Xing Huo smiles.
Back in Tokyo, Yuko looks at the cloudy sky which now has sunshine shining through and reflects on how the rain has stopped.
Mokona tells everyone that there are many more feathers out there, including the ones they just saw disapear and that their journey is far from over.
Kurogane grumbles on having to do more traveling, Fay is excited at the prospect of more travling and Syaoran promises Sakura that he'll get all her feathers back.
With that, Mokona takes them all to the next world. As soon as they arrive, they run towards their next adventure and Mokona thanks, us the audience for watching.
At the end of the credits, we get a nice little suprise of super deformed versions of Sakura, Syaoran, Kurogane, Fay and Mokona standing in front of a television running clips from season 2. Each of them give us little parting messages with the gist being that this is the end of their adventures in animated form but they will keep traveling to new worlds and their story will continue (such as in the manga).
As a final farewell, they all quote Mokona's famous line;
"Mokona Modoki is also thrilled! Pah, Poo!"
My Original Impression
No net access when it aired! Ah!
Today's Crossovers
Yuko From xxxHolic. While not directly getting involved in the series finale, is obviously aware of what's going on. It's such a shame that no other xxxHolic characters have appeared since Episode 2.
Kero The doll Sakura has packed in her bag during her flashback has got to be a reference to her yellow stuffed toy guardian, Kero from Card Captor Sakura. The design is so similar (with the exception of the rabbit ears and lack of wings) it can't be a coincidence. Especially since it's Sakura, herself who owns the toy.
Yukito Sakura's childhood crush and older brother's boyfriend from Card Captor Sakura appears twice in this episode. Once in a flashback and another time as one of the swordsmith that Kurogane hired to fix Syaoran's sword in the previous episode.
Toya What would Yukito be without Toya? Sakura's older brother from Card Captor Sakura appears twice in this episode along with his boyfriend, Yukito in a flashback and as a swordsmith who fixes Syaoran's sword.
