Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
Tokyo Revelations: The Boy's Right Eye
The "other" Syaoran has arrived at Yuko's shop. Yuko, who had sensed his arrival meets him as he arrives and asks him if the person who sent him to her was Xing Huo. She then asks him what she had said. Syaoran tells her that Xing Huo had told him that "The dream must end".
Yuko then says to herself how the children she had tried to help had become shattered pieces of unfulfilled dreams despite everything they had done.
Just then, Watanuki arrives and stands in shock at the shop's entrance to watch Yuko and this strange person who looks just like one of the ones Yuko had helped back in Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Episode 1
Syaoran then tells Yuko that he wishes to be sent to where his right eye is. Yuko tells him that his payment has already been accepted: His relationship, his freedom, and time. Yuko begins to warn him of where he is going but he quickly tells her that he must go. Yuko then sends him on his way.
As the magic symbol disappears the rain stops. Yuko recalls how the last thing Clow Reed had said to her was "The dream must end".
In the world of Tokyo, Syaoran, Faye, Mokona and the rest return to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building with the giant worm they has killed. They're told that Kamui had arrived well ahead of them and had gone down to the basement. Mokona suddenly "Mekyos" and tells Syaoran that there's definitely a feather downstairs.
In a room above, Kurogane holds a lifeless Sakura but is told that she is alive and that it is just her soul that is sleeping.
Down in the basement, Kamui sees a bright light glowing from the bottom of the water and dives in. He's shocked to see Sakura asleep in the center of a weird sphere. Suddenly one of her feathers appears and returns to her. Almost immediately the barrier protecting the building disappears and the acid rain starts to burn the building.
Kamui moves to strike Sakura but is stopped by Syaoran who has dived into the water to protect her.
Kamui commands Syaoran to get out of his way. Syaoran is shocked to see that Kamui is communicating telepathically but refuses to move. Kamui then tells him that he is then "prey" and attacks him. Syaoran immediately finds himself at a disadvantage due to the water pressure weighing down on him and his inability to breathe.
Kamui eventually draws blood and shocks Syaoran by drinking it. As Kamui thinks to himself that he may be able to awaken Subaru who is the mysterious voice that had been talking to Sakura earlier, by feeding him this blood. Syaoran then realises that Kamui and this "Subaru" must be the twin vampires that Seishiro had mentioned.
Before Syaoran can react, Kamui transforms his nails into enormous talons and slashes at Syaoran, drawing an enormous amount of blood that floats to the surface. Faye sees this and dives in to save Syaoran.
Back in the depths of the basement, Syaoran has changed and has almost defeated Kamui. Faye is shocked to see this. Suddenly Kamui slashes at Syaoran and releases himself from his hold. He tells Syaoran that he's surprised mere "prey" would have so much strength and because of this he'll drink all of his blood and use it as sustenance especially because he isn't even a real human to begin with.
Faye overhears this and is shocked. Kamui who sees his approach asks Faye if he is Syaoran's master and that if he was aware that Syaoran's body is a creation and that his soul had been given to him by someone else.
Elsewhere, Fay Wang Reed recalls to Xing Huo how years ago he had captured Syaoran who was a descendent of Clow Reed and made a copy of him who's sole purpose was to collect all of Sakura's feathers once they were scattered, ten years later. Syaoran, in an attempt to sabotage Fay Wang Reed's evil plan, embedded half of his soul into his right eye, ripped it out and planted it within the double.
Fay Wang Reed tried to remove the eye as he wanted his copy to be a soulless being with just a mission but found that removing the eye would destroy the copy and he was unable to make another copy. Resigning himself to his circumstances he decided to continue with his plan and planted the boy Syaoran copy in the Kingdom of Clow to be found by Fujitaka knowing that while the real Syaoran's eye and the magic it contained would suppress his programming for the time being, his copy would still be functional.
Fay Wang Reed then looks at Xing Huo who we see he has killed with his sword. He then tells her lifeless body that he knows it was her who had sent the real Syaoran to Yuko and that he really isn't surprised considering her origin (which he doesn't reveal).
Back in Tokyo the water is torn asunder as magical symbol appears in the sky. Kamui realises that someone else is coming to this world and that it is not Seishiro but someone with a similar energy signature to Syaoran.
Suddenly a new golden magical symbol appears out of Syaoran's right eye. Faye notices this and realises that this magical seal is weakening and when it does, the soul the was placed in him and developed through his relationship with Sakura and other people who love him will be completely destroyed as his original programming comes to the surface.
Faye decides that he won't let this happen and releases a powerful magic ribbon that rips apart the magic symbol now rotating above Syaoran's head. As the symbol shatters the circle in the middle which features the Chinese Yin and Yang symbol falls to the ground and rolls towards Faye.
Syaoran walks toward Faye and demands to know if the feather he saw before was the only one in this world. Faye realises that he had failed. Syaoran's soul had been suppressed and this fake body's original mission is now it's priority.
Syaoran tells Faye that he knows he has a strong magical ability and that he'll need it if he is to find all the feathers. He then looks at Faye's blue eyes and asks if this is where the source of his magic is.
Up above, Kurogane is running down to the basement carrying the lifeless Sakura when her body begins to glow and disappears. He is told that more likely than not her body has gone to where her soul is.
When he gets to the basement Mokona tells him that Syaoran and Faye are in the middle of what is now I giant whirlpool. Suddenly the bursts in all directions and freezes in mid-air as if by magic. In the centre if the basement is Syaoran who is holding an unconscious Faye with one hand and eating something with his other. They are both covered in blood.
Kurogane realises that Syaoran is eating Faye's left eye and leaps in and stops him just as he reaches for the remaining one. Syaoran quickly kicks him in the stomach, stunning him. Kurogane then grabs him and throws him against a far wall.
As if things couldn't get any worse, the other Syaoran, the one who had been held captive by Fay Wang Reed all this time and is in fact the real Syaoran arrives.
Meanwhile Sakura, still in her dream state is pondering over Subaru's message to awaken and help her "important person". Sakura thinks about every major person in her life and finally realises that her most important person, the person who she loves is Syaoran!
With this realisation she wakes up and is horrified to see two Syaorans facing off with each other.
Kurogane yells at Mokona to give him Syaoran's sword (he had to leave his outside). Mokona spits out Syaoran's sword but Syaoran uses the magic he had stolen from Faye and summons it to his hands.
The real Syaoran then summons his eye/half-soul in the form of the Yin Yang symbol which flies from out of Syaoran's chest and into his own and tells Syaoran that a seal that has been broken cannot be fixed and he's sure Faye knew that but refused to just let Syaoran's soul be taken from him. He then says that he has been watching everything he has done and all the people he has met through that right eye.
Syaoran then yells at the real Syaoran in anger that the feelings that he had felt for Sakura, that he loved her and that she was important to him, weren't his feelings but the real Syaoran's. The two then begin to fight.
Syaoran combines his magic with the fire power of his sword and sets the whole basement ablaze. As the real Syaoran is beaten back, Kurogane notices the symbol on his chest.
Syaoran then stands up and begins to summon an enormous magical power to himself. He tells Syaoran that he had promised Yuko that he would wait until the seal on the eye had weakened and that it had been returned to him before he would come after him and by then he had hoped that all the experiences he had had and the people he had met would help create his own real soul but by chance, after his eye had been returned he would revert back into a mindless body who's only purpose for living was to fulfil his master's orders then he would swear to destroy him.
He then blasts Syaoran and then lunges at him with his new magical sword. Before he can finish him though, Sakura screams for him not to kill him. Unfortunately the fake Syaoran takes this opportunity to strike the real Syaoran's leg with his sword.
He then gets up and walks over to Sakura, raises his sword and slices the sphere she had been held in. All the water leaks out. He then walks over to a cocoon and cuts it which releases a second feather! He draws Sakura to him and returns the feather to her. He then tells her that there are no more feathers in this world and that he will go to the next world in search of more. Fay Wang Reed, still watching from his other world opens a portal for Syaoran. Syaoran begins to walk into it but Sakura grabs his hand and begs him not to go. He simply shakes her hand off of his and walks into the portal. Sakura collapses.
The cocoon begins to glow and Subaru reveals himself. Kamui runs up to him and embraces him and begs him to leave with him as Seishiro may be on his way. Subaru tells him that they must wait just a bit more.
In the distance, Kurogane asks the real Syaoran what that symbol is on his chest. Syaoran simply looks at him and tells him that it's the symbol of the people who killed his mother.
My Original Impression
Wednesday 16th January 2007
While Tsubasa #22 which comes with the 2nd Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations DVD isn't due out for another two days, the store near my work put them on the shelves today so I grabbed myself a copy and watched it as soon as I got home!
Let me just say, "Holy CRAP!". That was the craziest half hour of Tsubasa I've ever seen! Some great animation, a super fast script and a voice cast that didn't disappoint! Sakura even impressed me by not only not annoying me but actually impressing me when she was screaming out during the Syaoran battle. It's just a shame it took the actress two seasons of the anime and a movie to express some emotion.
I've said it before and I'll say it again; all the Tsubasa actors seem to do so much better when directed by Production I.G. It was evident in the movie and even moreso now.
xxxHolic fans will love the inclusions of Larg the black Mokona, Yuko who's never looked so beautiful and Watanuki who doesn't speak but who's voice actor lends his talents to the role of Subaru.
The 17th of March can't come soon enough!!!
I hope to God, Production I.G. does another Tsubasa OAV after Tokyo Revelations!!! This OAV has surpassed my expectations in every way!!!
