Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
Episode #41
The Secret of the Library
Suprisingly, this episode starts not by following Syaoran after the revelation at the end of the last episode, but rather continues to show the viewer more insights into Kurogane's past that Syaoran probably glimpsed.
The flashbacks pick up where the last ones left off with a young Tomoyo (or Tsukuyomi as she was mysteriously referenced) comforting a young Kurogane over the death of his mother. We then skip forward a bit to the Country of Japan where Tomoyo is looking after Kurogane, now in bed.
Kurogane requests that his sword, the Silver Dragon be burried next to his mother in place of his father's body as he was completely destroyed by a giant demon (see Episode 40 for more info). Tomoyo agrees but says that she will make him a replica so he can fullfil his promise to his father, to become stronger.
Tomoyo explains that Tsukuyomi is the formal name given to the princess of the land and that her real name is Princess Tomoyo. Kurogane inroduces himself and they become friends.
In the present, Kurogane, Syaoran, Sakura, Fay and Mokona are in the country of LeCourt and Syaoran has just viewed Kurogane's past by simply picking up a mysterious book. Very strange.
Syaoran, obviously shaken is taken to a room to rest. When he recovers, he requests that he talk to Kurogane alone. Sakura, Fay and Mokona leave and Syaoran appologises once more for invading Kurogane's privacy without his permission. Kurogane tells him that it's okay as he obviously didn't do it on purpose but also tells him that just because he viewed his past, doesn't mean he has to share the same pain. Syaoran smiles.
Outside, Fay, Sakura and Mokona are relaxing next to a fountain. Fay and Sakura decide to not waste any time and go to look for clues to the whereabouts of Sakura's feather. Mokona tells them that he will stay where he is. Sakura is suprised but Fay understands and says that it's okay.
As soon as they leave, Mokona opens up a connection to Yuko on the water's surface so Yuko and Mokona can see each other in the water's reflection and tells Yuko that he'll try his hardest to comfort Syaoran and Kurogane as both seem very depressed at the moment. Yuko tells Mokona that he's doing well and also drops a bit of trivia, she's heard of this LeCourt world before.
Later that day, the whole gang decide to meet up at a cafe. Fay and Sakura announce that they've found a clue to the feather's location! They show Syaoran a photocopy of the cover of the book he was holding. It features the same design as Sakura's feathers! Fay explains that he asked about the book and says that it allows anyone to view the past of the person who previously opened the book. He also says that he was told that this book is a copy of a more powerful source of magic which is located in the head library.
They all decide to go to this head library and take a flying train to get there. On the way, Fay says that they couldn't afford first class seats and Mokona does impersonations of each of them with Kurogane being the father who's working hard to support his family, Syaoran being the son who will try his hardest, Sakura being the daughter who defends her father and Fay being the mother who appologises for her husband's small income.
When they get to the library the ask about the original Book of Memories at the front desk but are denied permission to see it as apparently a long time ago an evil man mysteriously came into posession of the power and almost desytoyed the land. Now it's under tight security and noone can see it.
They all decide to walk around the library some more and find the feather in an indirect way. Eventually they come across a section of the library under tight security with a magic doorway that only those with pure thoughts can pass through (those with impure get electrocuted). The woman on duty says that the Book of Memories (i.e. the feather) is in this part of the library.
They all leave the library for a bit, unsure of how to continue as they all want the feather. Kurogane says he can train his mind into thinking of nothing, Fay says he can fool the doorway too. Mokona also says it shouldn't be a problem for him. They all worry about Sakura though who is just so damn innocent and is feeling guilty about stealing the feather.
Syaoran tells her that he's telling himself that the feather is a bad thing for this world due to the trouble it's caused everyone in the past and that everyone here would be relieved if it was to disapear. Sakura buys this and they all pass through the door no problem.
While walking around, Fay detects a magic wall and getting Kurogane to move a bookcase, deactivates it, revealing a dark passage. Suddenly an alarm sounds and the two giant winged lion statues that were guarding the library's entrance come alive. The gang runs into the dark passage and are immediately attacked by hundreds of giant serpents. Mokona spits out Syaoran and Kurogane's swords which he had cleverly been smuggling in his mouth and they begin to fight back at the serpents while still running for their lives.
They see a light up ahead and run to it. The light surrounds them and when it clears... they find themselves in the Country of Clow!
