Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle
Episode #34
Endless War
Part two of the Ashura arc continues right where part one left off with both the Ashura and Yasha statues surrounding themselves in flame, a giant rip in reality appearing in the sky above the city and Sakura having exhibited some of her mysterious powers after sensing the Ashura statue's activity lies unconcious with Syaoran screaming her name.
At the Yasha statue, Fay, being on the magical side of things begins to sense a presence from the other side of the sky. Kurogane, who has no magical ability comments on that presense being violent in nature.
Meanwhile at the Ashura statue, Suzuran begins to cry in front of the statue out of frustration as everyone seems to think that the earthquakes are always Ahura's fault. While she's crying, one of her tears lands on the statue which trigers a third eye to open on it's forehead and a giant beam of light to blast into the sky. At that same moment a similar beam blasts from the Yasha statue.
The rip in the sky opens completely, revealing a giant pink moon on the other side. But before anyone can comment on it, Mokona begins to glow, floats up into the sky and spreads his wings. Sakura and Syaoran see him and are shocked as it appears as if he's about to travel to another world! Mokona begins to speak as though in a trance, about how this world doesn't have a feather yet the world above does. He then summons the magical circle which appears beneath himself, Sakura and Syaoran and Fay and Kurogane. All three seperate parties are then transported into the vortex and on to the next world.
The inside of the vortext looks different than it usually does, appearing this time with a strong pink tinge. What's more, while traveling to the next world this time, Sakura sees a flash of the past or a memory, though it happens to quickly and she's not sure what just happened.
When they arrice they find themselves in the middle of a battleground under the shadow of a massive pink moon (the same that was seen through the rip in the sky before). As they stand up a woman's voice asks them what they're doing here as they're only children. Sakura and Syaoran are shocked to see that the woman is Ashura, though the real one and no longer a statue!
Syaoran sees something else shocking, Kurogane and Fay already in this country's garb and with black eyes (!) fighting along side the leader of the other side, Yasha! He calls out to them and they seem him but do not respond. Seconds later the moon lets off a massive glow and Ashura, Sakura, Syaoran and one of the armies that was fighting up in the sky are transported back to Earth. It appears that they were all up on a floating sky palace and that when the moon is in it's zenith every night, those standing within certain ruins on Earth can be teleported up to the palace.
Ashura explains that whomever claims the castle will have their wish granted and then welcomes Sakura, Syaoran and Mokona as her guests to her kingdom. It appears Ashura is King Ashura!
Later that evening, Ashura treats her guests to dinner. Mokona announces that he can't sense the feather exactly but feels an enormous power coming from the floating palace.
While eating, one of the servants brings out a harp-like instrument which Sakura recognises and is subsequently asked to give it a whirl. She plays it rather well and Ashura performs a beautiful fan dance to the enjoyment of everyone.
The next morning, Syaoran and Mokona have a meal with Ashura. They find out that this land is called Shura as opposed to the previous Shara world they were in, possibly meaning that they are seperate, yet Syaoran thinks of the obvious similarities such as two opposing sides, plus Ashura and Yasha being major players. Mokona expresses interest in a bottle of something-or-other and claims that Yuko would love it and if he can send it to her. Ashura complies and Mokona sucks it within himself and transports it back to Yuko.
Later that night, Syaoran sneaks away to the ruins with Ashura and her army without telling Sakura. He wants to visit the sky palace again to search for any clues to Sakura's feather and also see if the Kurogane and Fay he saw before are the ones he knows or this world's versions of them.
Moments after reaching the ruins they are all transported to the sky palace to the same position as last time. The Kurogane from before sees him and attacks! Kurogane throws attack after attack at Syaoran who does a rather good job of defending himself though would obviously had lost the fight, and probably his life has Ashura not interfered on his behalf. Syaoran notices that this Kurogane carries the same sword, Souhi, that his Kurogane got on Outo, hinting that this must be the same Kurogane.
Suddenly, King Yasha interupts the squabbling with a massive attack that devestates the battle field. Kurogane comments that this isn't like him to be involved in the fighting and Syaoran thinks to himself that Ashura and Yasha are very strong.
Ashura and Yasha stare at each other as though in a standoff with both sides watching.
My Original Impression
Saturday, June 18, 2006
Just finished watching Tsubasa Chronicle 34 and loved it. I was amazed at how much from the manga they put into one episode without missing anything (as far as I can recall). Mokona was great (actually serious for once), Fay looked very cool when looking at the sky (very little wierdly drawn Fay this week thank God), and we got some great new epic instrumental pieces that really brought to life this battle in the sky. Speaking of which I was really impressed with the effect shown when everyone got transported to the sky castle. Really well done and original.
Next week looks great with an appearance by Yuko and several events that lead up to the conclusion of the recently released, Tsubasa reservoir Chronicle #9 which means that from Episode 36 onwards, all the storylines will be suprising (unless you read spoilers, but you shouldn't).
Bring it on!
Today's Crossovers
Ashura: Straight from CLAMP's first manga series, RG Vega, Ashura (not to be confused with Ahura Ou) makes her Tsubasa Chronicle debut right here!
Kumaraten: Another RG Vega rocks on by! Quite a large role too but not as interesting as the two main guys above.
Yasha: Also from RG Vega comes Yasha. Great to see some more characters from CLAMP's first series.
