Crossover Info: Mokona talks to Yuko in the final chapter of this book though as far as I can tell, this conversation doesn't correspond to any in the xxxHolic manga series.
This latest volume of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles is a rather special one for several reasons. The most obvious one being that it focuses almost entirely on exposing Kurogane's tragic childhood and young adult life through an interesting magic book narration device but also due to the fact that it's the final world the gang visit before things take a decidedly darker turn in the following world.
The story starts with Syaoran once more dreaming about his other self, only this time this other Syaoran seems to almost be fully awake and actually attacks Syaoran in his sleep!
When Syaoran awakes he finds that they've arrived in a new world called Recort a magical world with a European influence. They soon find a mysterious book with the sign of Sakura's feather on in and soon Syaoran is forced to view the most emotional and private of Kurogane's memories.
While almost the entire book is devoted to Kurogane's flashback, the pace doesn't let down as revelation after revelation is dropped, making the character of Kurogane more endearing than previously though possible.
The artwork is great and the translation good though there were several instances where I thought more time could have been spent on making the dialogue sound more natural than it ended up sounding.
Overall this is a necessary and thoroughly enjoyable read for any Tsubasa fan especially for those who fancy a certain tall dark ninja.
